While book two is percolating, I'm into excavating older files and manuscripts. I just did some hard drive searches, finding the virtual equivalent of bar napkins scattered around my computer's memory. Two pages here of a character named Audrey, two there of a character named Sydney. A file with only a sentence and a half in it, but something that looks like the kernel of something with potential.
My afternoon reading today, I think, will be a manuscript I started some 20+ years ago. I don't even think I have an ecopy right now (although I should check my old laptop for one). The manuscript is on a floppy (not the real floppy floppies, but the kind that are small enough to be cupped in your hand--just barely), but I'm sure there's a print out somewhere in a file box. I think paper is how I'm starting with this one, as I'm not sure there's much to be salvaged.
What's intriguing to me, though, is who I'll find in that old manuscript. The whole thing was driven by a sort of manic phase in my life when I was still not quite sure who I was. I wrote that during the worst of my hypochondria and panic attack years as an undergrad. Once I started getting a handle on myself, I simply stopped working on it. It's like a personal time capsule.
